Victory Culture by Lawrence Gipe and Timur Siqin

In 2008, I completed a short video with Timur Siqin called “Victory Culture”. It’s structure consists of segues between archival footage and a vector pan across my source material. The latter segments are meant to reference nostalgia; they are wistful sweeps over terrains of ideological images of men, women, landscape and icons of progress. The footage is edited from various propaganda movies (or, in the case of “The Fountainhead, highly coded and conservative views of power) like “Why We Fight” (1943) and a 2008 internet video for the Marines.
